      The College of Chemical Engineering of Fuzhou University was founded on February 27, 2014 by Fuzhou University in conjunction with People's Government of Quanzhou Quangang District and Fujian Petrochemical Group. The College has departments separately based in Qishan campus and Quangang campus.


The College has a long history, dated back to 1958 when the Department of Chemical Engineering was first founded. In 1961, Mr. Lu Jiaxi, the celebrated chemist, former Vice Chairman of National People’s Congress and President of Chinese Academy of Sciences, joined the department and established the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering together with the professors transferred from Xiamen University as its backbone. The department was divided into the Department of Chemistry and Department of Chemical Engineering in 1984 to meet the needs of disciplinary development. The two departments merged again to adapt to China’s higher education reform, and thus the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was established on May 18, 2001. Later, the University founded the College of Chemical Engineering  on the basis of the Department of Chemical Engineering and has since integrated itself into the development of the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.

Departments and Programs

The college offers diversified undergraduate and graduate programs, including a national “Project 211” key discipline (New Technology of Clean Chemical Engineering), a Innovation Platform for Provincial Outstanding Discipline (Energy-Saving, Environmental Protection and Industrial Catalysis Research), a provincial key discipline (Chemical Engineering and Technology), the postdoctoral research center (Chemical Engineering and Technology), the doctoral program for the “Tier One”discipline (Chemical Engineering and Technology), 6 doctoral  programs for “Tier Two” disciplines (Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Industrial Catalysis, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Environmental Chemical Engineering, and Chemical Equipment and Control), and the master’s program for the “Tier One” discipline (Chemical Engineering and Technology), 4 master’s programs for the “Tier Two” disciplines (Chemical Process Machinery, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, and Industrial Catalysis), the professional master’s  program (Chemical Engineering), and 2 undergraduate programs (Chemical Engineering and Technology, and Process Equipment and Control).


Currently, the college has 97 faculties ,74teaching and research faculties, of which there are 19 full professors and 33 associate professors, including an awardee of China National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars and Chief Scientist of “Program 973”, the Chief Scientist of “Program 863”, 3“Minjiang Scholar Program” professors, 2 recipients of the State Council Special Allowances, 2 recipient of Fujian “Hundred Talent Program”, 3 professors sponsored by Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurial Talents Program, a recipient of Fujian “Talents Project”, 4 recipients of Fujian“New-century Excellent Talent Support Program”, a Leading Talent of Fujian Scientific and Technological Innovation Project, a Leading Talent of Fujian Universities, a Fujian Distinguished University Teacher, and 13 doctoral supervisors. Also the school has invited oversea professors as Chair Professors of “Minjiang Scholar Program”, such as Prof. Xiaotao Bi, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Prof. Shigeo Oyama and Dr. Atsushi Takagaki from the University of Tokyo, and Prof. Hideko Oyama from the Rikkyo University.

Talents cultivation

The college is dedicated to talents cultivation and now it has 1249 students, including 20 doctoral candidates,260 master degree candidates and 969 undergraduates. 3 postdoctors,4 foreign students.The School consists of  the Industrial Catalysis Department, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, the Material Engineering Department, the Department of Process Equipment and Control and the Chemistry Lab Center. It also houses the National Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center (Chemistry and Chemical Engineering), the Provincial Experiment & Teaching Demonstration Center (Chemical Engineering), the MOE Specialty Construction Center (Chemical Engineering and Technology), the Provincial Research Center for Innovative Graduates Education (Industrial Catalysis). The School offers 2 High-Quality Provincial Courses (Chemical Engineering Theory and Chemical Engineering and Technology Experiment), and has the Provincial Teaching Team (Chemical Engineering and Technology Teaching Team of Fujian Province). The Specialty of Chemical Engineering and Technology was listed as part of the MOE “Excellent Engineers Education and Training Plan”. The “Teaching Research and Practice of Optimized Course Design for Chemical Engineering Theory” won the second prize of National Teaching Achievement. In order to enhance talents cultivation and keep up with the state-of-the-art technology in the petrochemical industry, the School offers courses in Qishan campus and Quangang campus. The undergraduates will take basic courses in Qishan Campus in the first two years, and spend another two years in Quangang Campus taking professional courses, carrying out engineering projects and complete their graduation theses.

Scientific Research

The college houses the National Engineering Research Center for Fertilizer Catalysts、the public service platform of Hercynian petrochemical catalytic materials、Reactive distillation technology Fujian Province university engineering research center and other national and provincial scientific research platform. Since entering the 12th Five-Year Plan, the School has obtained over 146 research projects approved by provincial or national agencies and its research funding has reached 80.5 million RMB. The School holds 148 authorized national invention patents. Its teaching and research faculty have published 200 scientific papers, which have been indexed into SCI, EI and ISTP. Gearing up to research and application development, the School has carried out long-term collaboration of Production-Teaching-Scientific Research with a number of enterprises, positively and efficiently transforming research achievements into productivity and creating significant economic benefits. 216 technical contracts have been signed with a total fund of about 43.75 million RMB. The School has won plenty of scientific awards, including a second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, a second prize of National Technological Invention Award, a third prize of National Invention Award, and 7 Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Award.

Cooperation and exchange

The college has programs with several leading universities or research institutes worldwide for academic exchange, staff training and research collaboration. It has strong and long-term partnerships with universities in U.S., U.K, France, Canada, Japan, and Singapore, and famous “Project 985” Universities in China. The School also hosts international and national scholarly conferences on a regular basis.

Quangang Campus

Quangang campus is situated in the town of Qianhuang, Quangang ,Quanzhou.The students officially settled in September 2016. The campus is designed to cover an area of 667,000 m2.The first-phase construction was completed with an investment of 0.4 billion RMB and an area of 365,000 m2.The whole campus includes 13 buildings of teaching building, laboratory building, library and administration building, apartments and canteen, and infrastructure construction of 400m playground, basketball, volleyball and tennis court, the entrance gate, road, parking lot and landscape. It's divided into teaching building area of 10831 m2, laboratory building area of 10599 m2, administration building area of 10900 m2, student apartments area of 11938 m2, faculty apartment area of 2713 m2, canteen area of 3773 m2, and experts apartment area of 808 m2.In the future, the School will promote collaboration with other universities and set up the Petrochemical Research Institute, the Technology Transfer Center and the Incubation Center. With the scientific achievements transformed into productivity, an integrated mode of development is created to promote production, education and scientific research. The School of Chemical Engineering will work to prepare the talent pool for technological innovation and industrial upgrading in petrochemical industry, and thus implement the strategy of building a “Petrochemical Province”.

Based on the school-running concept of Fuzhou University which is to take the regionalcharacteristics of entrepreneurial strong school and build a high level 211 university, the college of petrochemical engineering is moving forward to the goal of the construction of the research, high-level and international college.
